10 Things You May Not Know About Me

Today I am participating in a blog hop. There are ten bloggers who are all writing on one of a few subject options, and we are linking to each other’s blog.

It’s always fun to get to know the blogger behind the blog, so when I was presented with the subject idea of 10 things you may not know about me, I thought it would be fun. Now some of you may already know some of these things, but hopefully it gives you a little more insight to who I am!

  1. I was born and raised in Southwest Florida along the Gulf Coast. Going through as many hurricane seasons as I have, I am a little paranoid when it comes to my emergency prep. At the bottom of this post you can download a free checklist for your in-home emergency kit.

Yes, Florida is under there somewhere. This was my Junior year of high school.

  2. I have never dyed my hair. Ok, I put some red wash-out dye in it for school pep rallies, but that’s it. I don’t do anything special to my hair. Just wash it, brush it, and go!
  3. As much as a girl would be fun, I am glad I am a boy-mom. I don’t know if I could handle having a girl, but I’m still holding out hope that my sister decides to try for another baby and has a girl this time! We have 4 boys under age 4 between the two of us.

This photo is almost a year old now, but that’s me with my wonderful boys!

  4. I am a little crazy when it comes to my photos and the backups. Every month I do a backup of my photos to multiple places. A hard drive in the safe, a hard drive in my desk, and to my dropbox account. If you don’t have it in 3 places, you don’t have it!
  5. Houston is the farthest NORTH I have ever lived. I love the warm weather and don’t do well in the cold. I’m fine with the excruciating summers because it also means a mild winter.
  6. When I was younger I wanted to be many things including an architect, a meteorologist, a top fuel NHRA driver, and an air traffic controller.
  7. During high school I was in so many clubs and activities, but the best was playing on the Varsity Girls Golf Team all four years in high school.
  8. My best friend has been my best friend since I was about 3 days old. She has been there longer than my little sister, and is basically my other sister. She has been on most of our family trips with us and always went camping with us. In high school we were inseparable. Now, funnily enough, we both live in Texas!
  9. I met my husband playing Ultimate Frisbee with a group of people who played on campus at University of Central Florida…. at midnight! Today is our 5 year wedding anniversary!!
  10. Inside my seemingly-tough exterior, I can be really sensitive about things sometimes. I try to keep my emotions to myself, but after a while I can’t control it and they burst through.

I’ve never tried doing that before! I just always empty them into the photos program on my mac, then once a month make sure they are backed up to my multiple places. I want to get a hard drive I keep at my parent’s house and update when I am there too for another off-site backup!

Thanks! Hopefully it helps. That one is more designed for hunkering down in your home. I plan to put together another one in the future when it gets closer to hurricane season for what to make sure you have during an evacuation.

I WISH I was as organized about photos as you are! I’m not sure why backing up seems like such a task for me but it’s definitely one I ignore even though I’m well aware it will come back to bite me in the butt lol

I have known wayyyyy too many people who have lost so many photos. I tried helping one of my mom’s friends who had a hard drive corrupt and even after taking to multiple computer recovery places, they couldn’t recover. It was all the photos of the first 2 years of her child’s life. I have it on my calendar to do on the first of every month so it’s scheduled. If you keep up with it, it doesn’t take long. It takes me maybe 30 minutes or so, depending on how many photos I took that month.

I once lost all of my photos and Word files when my computer crashed and I lost the USB stick that I had saved them on as well, so to me doing a backup of your photos sounds sensible!

It’s so important!!!! That’s also why I use dropbox. If the house caught on fire, it would potentially ruin my computer and any physical backups in the house. Dropbox isn’t stored at my house which is why I always stress some type of “off-site” backup too.

Happy anniversary! I am not used to any natural disasters except occasional flooding (elsewhere in our country) so hurricanes are super scary to me! I would think that one has to be very prepared. My dad grew up in Namibia, where it does not rain a lot, so he used to be very scared of bad weather. I think that is the main reason I feel this way! I think you are brave to prepare for it – I will just hit the road!

Thanks! Hurricanes scare me the least of any natural disaster because you have time to prepare. You know for days that it is coming or is a potential and can get ready or get out. We left the house when Hurricane Charley came at us, it ended up hitting the town north of us, so we went to the hospital my uncle was working at since he could get us in as an employee working during the storm.
