It’s cookie season! I remember this time of the year oh so well when I was in Girl Scouts. I was a scout for five years and loved every minute of it. The friends, the fun, the camping, earning our patches, and of course, the cookies!
I can remember going door-to-door in my neighborhood selling the cookies, and then loading them all up in the wagon once they cookies arrived to deliver. We did cookie booths at the local grocery stores, and my troop was one of the top-selling in the area even though we were a very small troop. We used our cookie money every year to plan a camping trip to Disney World and go to the parks (one of the perks of growing up in Florida).
Every year we would get a sample of all the cookies to try so we could help others decide which cookie was best. I haven’t been a Girl Scout for many years now, but still get those delectable Thin Mints every single year. They are my favorite cookie! And they are one of the few constants that haven’t changed since I was selling them. The price has changed quite a bit, but the flavor is still every bit as amazing as the last time I had some.
When we moved to Texas a few years ago, I learned that there are two different companies that make the cookies, and depending on your area some of the cookies may have a different name. I was a little confused when I looked at our neighbor’s order form so had to do a bit of research into it.
No matter what area you are in, no matter what you call them, there is just something beautiful about biting into the Girl Scout cookies for the first time of the season! As I said, my favorite cookie is the Thin Mints, and I like them even better when they’ve been frozen! My husband enjoys the Samoas (also known as the Caramel Delights).
