Fruit kabobs were probably the easiest food I made for Ryan’s banana party last week, and they were delicious. This was the one thing that was completely gone after the party.
Of course, since it was a banana party, we had so much food with bananas in it. And what goes better with bananas than some fresh strawberries? I wanted a bit more on them than just the two fruits, so I also got some Angel Food Cake.
We’ve had some wooden skewers for a long time since we now use our metal skewers when we grill. So I decided to use up some of those to make some quick fruit kabobs that would be easy for the kids or adults to grab.
I bought so many bananas for the party; I had plenty to work with for the kabobs. We also have been eating strawberries every day since they are in season so have those on hand as well. I bought an angel food cake from the bakery just for this.
When my mom saw it, she thought I was making strawberry shortcake and was wondering how it would fit with the banana theme.
We started by cutting up the cake into cubes that were about one inch each. You want to make sure that the pieces are large enough that they won’t come apart and fall off of the skewers.
Cut the tops off of the strawberries and slice the bananas into one-inch chunks as well. Carefully thread the fruit and cake on the skewers in an alternating pattern.
You could also serve these with a yogurt dip or chocolate if you want, but we didn’t since they were for a three-year-old’s party and I didn’t want the added mess.
- 20 strawberries
- 3 bananas
- 1 angel food cake
- 10 wooden skewers
Hull strawberries (cut the tops off)
Slice bananas into one-inch chunks
Cut the angel food cake into one-inch cubes
Thread the fruit and cake on the skewers, using two pieces of each per skewer
